Jimmy Johnson to host upcoming “Champions of Industry” segment on ecotourism

Since the 1980s, ecotourism has been thought by environmentalists to be a necessary critical effort. This specialized form of tourism, as opposed to mass or commercial tourism, focuses on visiting fragile locations in a careful way that preserves both the natural integrity of the site itself as well as honors the social structures of nearby communities. The slogan “Leave No Trace” refers to a responsible traveler’s ability to visit fragile, natural locations without disturbing the surrounding environment.

There are several main reasons for engaging in ecotourism. They include raising money for conservation efforts, teaching travelers about the beauty and fragility of nature, supporting the economies of surrounding communities, and promoting respect for human rights. All of these reasons will be explored in an upcoming segment of “Champions of Industry,” hosted by Jimmy Johnson.

Responsible ecotourism involves minimizing waste, water and energy conservation, and active recycling efforts. This form of travel, therefore, is often favored by human rights and environmental advocates.

“Champions of Industry” is a program developed for Public Television. Host Jimmy Johnson introduces segments that feature industry leaders sharing their knowledge and experience with the general public concerning relevant topics.

Champions of Industry is distributed to Public Television stations around the United States. The program is not shared through PBS. Information about the program can be found at http://www.championsofindustry.com.
